Alkagesta set up its Singapore hub in 2025. Here are the five points that mattered most about the move.
1. It was a long time coming. Alkagesta had been trading into Singapore since 2020 through cargo arbitrage, so the new office, Alkagesta Asia Pte Ltd, formalised a relationship that already existed. The company set out the details in its announcement, Alkagesta Expands Singapore Commodity Trading Hub.
2. Compliance travelled with it. The same KYC/AML checks, vessel and counterparty screening and zero-tolerance sanctions policy used in Malta apply in Singapore. Fintech News Singapore reported that the city-state was chosen partly because its legal framework matches European standards.
3. Volumes arrived quickly. Ship & Bunker tracked the marine fuels desk at about 160,000 MT in November 2025 and 180,000 MT in December, against a monthly target of 250,000 MT. Agshin Bakirzade, Commodity Trading Director for APAC, described the growth as "selective and strategic."
4. It completed the map. With Singapore, the Alkagesta network now runs from Malta through London, Geneva and Dubai to Asia. IPS News quoted board member Pierre Gay calling Singapore "a test of credibility."
5. The point was the bridge. ScandAsia framed the hub as a structured link between European governance and Asian growth, which CEO Orkhan Rustamov has described as the goal. Supporting work includes Alkagesta at Horizon Terminal Singapore, Jurong Island and Singapore Marine Fuels 2026: Supply Resilience.
