Commodity trading firm Alkagesta has elevated Anthony Guida to the role of Biofuels Trading Desk Lead, consolidating its operational push into low-carbon fuels across Europe. Operating out of the company's Geneva office, Guida’s promotion underscores the merchant house's strategic intention to expand its presence across the advanced bioenergy value chain.

Guida brings ten years of energy sector expertise to the position, having previously held market analysis and strategic development positions at S&P Global Platts, Phillips 66, and PETRONAS. Since joining Malta-headquartered Alkagesta in January 2025, he has led the setup and commercial scaling of its dedicated biofuels desk, bridging regional waste feedstock suppliers with European energy processors.

## Downstream logistics and international certification

Central to Alkagesta’s midstream strategy has been the acquisition of dedicated infrastructure assets to support physical liquidity. Under Guida’s direction, the firm secured a multi-year tankage and logistics agreement at the Pantank Antwerp terminal in Belgium, providing critical storage capability along key Western European trade arteries.

To further broaden its commercial reach into compliance-driven markets, the trading house secured ISCC CORSIA accreditation in January 2026. This certification enables the business to trade and deliver aviation-compliant renewable fuels eligible under the global CORSIA standard, establishing a framework for supplying sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to international counterparties.

## Upstream asset integration and processing capacity

Alongside terminal infrastructure, Alkagesta has committed capital directly into upstream processing. An investment in a used cooking oil (UCO) processing asset has underpinned physical throughput, driving equity barrel volumes up from 734 tonnes to 1,860 tonnes as the firm secures greater control over fundamental feedstock flows.

The trading platform now manages flows spanning the complete renewable fuel matrix. These include waste-derived inputs such as used cooking oil, soapstock acid oils, and food waste streams, extending downstream to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), SAF producers, and conventional biodiesel blenders and refiners.

Reflecting on the appointment, Guida noted that the promotion marks a key milestone while validating the growth of a certified and structured trading arm. The Geneva-led division aims to build on this framework to scale up market share and strengthen relationships with European refining and blending partners.
