Alkagesta has agreed to buy Turkish marine-fuel distributor Energy Petrol, a transaction that would give the Malta-based trader its first owned vessels. Bloomberg reported the agreement on 22 October 2026, highlighting the company’s expansion in Mediterranean bunkering.
In its announcement of the Energy Petrol acquisition, Alkagesta said the transaction includes eight marine-fuel vessels and has received approval from Türkiye’s competition authority. The company did not disclose a purchase price and said Energy Petrol would retain operational independence.
The purchase extends Alkagesta’s role beyond supplying marine fuels to handling their distribution to customers. According to the company’s announcement, the deal brings its global oil-products storage capacity to about 728,000 cubic metres, adding physical infrastructure to its trading activities.
Alkagesta also outlined the scale of its existing bunker business. It said it supplies approximately 40% of Türkiye’s marine-fuel market, which it estimates at 2.5 million tonnes annually, and around 75% of Malta’s market. These figures are company-reported estimates.
The transaction sits alongside an expansion of the trader’s Asian operations. Alkagesta said its Singapore hub reached roughly 250,000 metric tonnes of marine-fuel supply per month during its first full year, while further growth in Singapore remains part of its plans.
Asad Huseynov, Alkagesta’s managing director of investments and asset management, described the agreement as a foundation for possible investments or structured partnerships in other infrastructure assets. Bloomberg’s accessible summary places the deal within a wider trend of commodity traders acquiring businesses they previously supplied to strengthen their competitive position.
