Alkagesta attended the Argus Fertilizer Caspian, Black Sea and Eastern European Markets Conference 2026 in Istanbul on 17–18 September, one of the fertilizer sector's main annual meeting points for producers, traders and trade service providers. Organised by Argus Media, the event drew more than 450 delegates from over 250 companies across 45 countries, with the agenda built around emerging export markets, redrawn trade flows and closer cooperation across the Caspian region, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The company was represented by Vusal Muradov, who leads its fertilizer desk, together with fertilizer trader Tural Sabirzade and Mustafa Yigit Shen from the operations function. Over the two-day programme the team met counterparties spanning producers, logistics providers and market intelligence specialists — the mix of relationships that underpins Alkagesta's physical trading business.
Discussion returned repeatedly to the global fertilizer outlook: where prices are heading, how trade flows are being rerouted, and how much residual disruption remains in supply chains. Delegates also weighed the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and what it means for the competitiveness of imported fertilizers entering European markets, a compliance question that sits alongside the risk management frameworks traders now apply to cross-border flows.
Türkiye's emergence as a regional fertilizer hub was a recurring theme, as was the growing weight of Central Asian suppliers serving both domestic demand and European and global export markets. Sessions on logistics and infrastructure covered route developments, terminal capacity and freight trends along key corridors — practical constraints that determine delivery reliability as much as price does, and that sit at the centre of shipping and logistics planning.
The backdrop is a fertilizer market working through one of its more complex periods. Disruption to major shipping corridors has exposed how thin the margin for error had become in supply chains optimised for efficiency rather than resilience, and restoring physical flows has proved to be a gradual process rather than a single event.
Alkagesta's fertilizer desk trades nitrogen, phosphate and specialty products, sourcing from established global origins and directing supply towards markets where agricultural fundamentals are strongest, with an emphasis on durable supply partnerships across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and emerging agricultural markets. The company recently also gained access to the Argus Open Markets window for European biodiesel, HVO and used cooking oil, extending its participation in Argus price assessment processes across several commodity segments.
